Who Can Benefit from Therapy For Eating Concerns?
Eating-related challenges can look very different for each person, ranging from occasional struggles with food or body image to more persistent or severe disordered eating patterns.
Eating disorder therapy is for anyone struggling with unhealthy patterns around food, eating, or body image. This includes those experiencing restrictive eating, bingeing, emotional eating, or obsessive thoughts about weight and appearance. Therapy can also support individuals feeling guilt, shame, or anxiety related to food, as well as those whose eating concerns are affecting their physical health, relationships, or overall wellbeing. Whether you’re noticing early signs of disordered eating or facing a long-standing eating disorder, therapy provides a safe, non-judgmental space to explore these challenges and begin healing.
ADULT THERAPY FOR EATING CONCERNS
Adult therapy for eating concerns provides a compassionate space to explore unhealthy patterns around food, eating, and body image, which can show up as restrictive eating, bingeing, emotional eating, or preoccupation with weight and appearance. Through holistic, evidence-based approaches, adults can develop healthier coping strategies, restore balance in mind and body, and rebuild a positive, nurturing relationship with themselves and their wellbeing.
TEEN THERAPY FOR EATING CONCERNS
Providing a safe, supportive space for young people navigating body image struggles, restrictive or binge eating, or other challenges that can emerge during adolescence. These concerns can show up in different ways, from preoccupation with food and weight to emotional eating or social isolation. Through evidence-based approaches, teens can develop healthy coping skills, cultivate self-confidence, and reconnect with a balanced sense of self.

Does your relationship with food feel overwhelming or out of control?
Eating concerns and disorders can touch every part of life—impacting not only physical health but also self-esteem, relationships, and overall wellbeing. For some, this may look like constant preoccupation with food or body image, while for others it may show up as cycles of restriction, bingeing, or feelings of shame around eating. At Blue Coast Psychotherapy, we understand that these struggles are not just about food—they are about deeper emotions, stress, and patterns that can feel hard to break. Through a compassionate, holistic approach, we work with you to heal your relationship with food, reconnect with your body, and build a healthier, more balanced sense of self.

How We Can Help With Eating Disorders & Concerns
Our therapists at Blue Coast Psychotherapy use integrative, holistic approaches to support healing from eating concerns, nurture a balanced relationship with food and body, and promote overall mind-body well-being.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps individuals identify and change unhelpful thoughts and behaviors related to food, eating, and body image. By exploring patterns of negative self-talk, restrictive or bingeing behaviors, and perfectionism, CBT teaches practical coping strategies and tools for healthier habits. Over time, this approach supports emotional balance, self-compassion, and a more positive relationship with food and your body.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) helps individuals manage intense emotions and reduce self-destructive behaviors related to eating concerns. Through skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness, DBT supports healthier coping strategies and a more balanced relationship with food, body, and self.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps process past experiences and emotional patterns contributing to eating concerns. By guiding the brain to reprocess distressing memories or triggers, EMDR can reduce the intensity of shame, guilt, and anxiety around food, eating, or body image. Over time, this approach supports healthier coping, emotional balance, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself and your body.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps you explore the different “parts” of yourself that influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors around food and body image. By connecting with these parts with curiosity and compassion, IFS allows you to understand their protective roles and heal underlying emotional wounds. This approach fosters self-awareness, self-compassion, and a healthier, more balanced relationship with food and your body.
Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps individuals understand and process the emotions underlying disordered eating patterns. By exploring feelings such as shame, guilt, or anxiety in a safe and supportive space, EFT allows you to release emotional pain and develop healthier ways of coping. Over time, this approach fosters self-compassion, emotional resilience, and a more balanced relationship with food, body, and self.
Somatic and polyvagal-informed treatment focus on the connection between the body and mind, helping to release tension and regulate the nervous system that may be contributing to disordered eating. By tuning into bodily sensations, breath, and movement, these approaches support emotional processing, reduce stress, and foster a greater sense of safety and balance.
