How We Can Help With Anxiety, Panic, & OCD
Our therapists at Blue Coast Psychotherapy use a personalized approach to anxiety therapy. Incorporating a variety of integrative, holistic methods to help you in managing and overcoming symptoms of anxiety, panic, and OCD.
Cognitive therapies such as CBT, CPT, and DBT focus on understanding the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. These approaches provide practical skills to challenge unhelpful thinking patterns, regulate emotions, and build healthier coping strategies. By learning tools to shift perspective and manage difficult emotions, clients can reduce anxiety and panic attacks, and feel more in control of their lives.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that can help reduce anxiety and panic by addressing the underlying memories and thought patterns that fuel these feelings. During EMDR sessions, guided eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation help your brain reprocess stressful or distressing experiences, lessening their emotional impact. Over time, this allows you to feel calmer, more grounded, and better able to respond to everyday challenges with confidence and ease.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy helps you understand the different “parts” of yourself that contribute to anxiety. Rather than trying to push away or ignore anxious thoughts and feelings, IFS guides you to connect with these parts in a safe and compassionate way, uncovering the protective roles they play. By fostering communication between your parts and accessing your core Self, IFS can help reduce anxiety, build inner harmony, and strengthen your ability to respond to stress with clarity and calm.
Somatic therapy, informed by Polyvagal Theory, focuses on the deep connection between your body and nervous system to help manage anxiety. By tuning into physical sensations, breath, and movement, you can release tension and regulate your nervous system, reducing the intensity of anxious responses. This approach supports a sense of safety, grounding, and presence, helping you feel more in control of your body and mind while navigating everyday stressors.
Mindfulness-based therapies help you cultivate awareness and presence, providing tools to observe your thoughts and feelings without judgment. For anxiety, panic, or OCD, mindfulness teaches you to respond to distressing thoughts and sensations with curiosity rather than fear, breaking the cycle of rumination and avoidance. By practicing mindful techniques, you can strengthen emotional regulation, reduce stress, and create a greater sense of calm, balance, and clarity in daily life.
Exposure therapy is a structured, evidence-based approach designed to help you face feared situations, thoughts, or sensations in a safe and controlled way. By gradually and systematically confronting what triggers anxiety, panic, or obsessive-compulsive behaviors, you can reduce avoidance, build confidence, and retrain your mind and body to respond more calmly. Over time, exposure therapy helps you regain control, break the cycle of fear, and live with greater ease and freedom.
